John Mayer Recovering from Throat Surgery

John Mayer on recovery after throat surgery.

Singer/songwriter John Mayer announced in September that he had a Granuloma, a tumor-like tissue mass, near his vocal chords. He underwent a throat surgery on last Thursday (20.10.11) and the Grammy winner has taken to his Tumblr to brief fans on his recovery.

“I had surgery this afternoon to remove it and am now on complete vocal rest for a month or more. It’s been a very long process in waiting to see if time was an alternative to surgery, but even given two weeks’ voice rest (along with many other approaches), there was no change for the better.”-John Mayer wrote.

The 34-year-old singer has been instructed not to strain his vocal chords for at least one month, which unfortunately means that he has to postpone finishing the recording of his new album, “Born and Raised”. Last month, John Mayer had to cancel several shows due to the medical issues he was experiencing with his throat. The singer attempted various non-surgical means, but all were unsuccessful.

He also described how strange it feels to be away from his music after the throat surgery, blogging:

“I should be frustrated but I can’t seem to stop thinking about beautiful things… I never thought I’d be wishing I could do what I love again; I stay in at night, picking guitar parts off of records and dreaming of playing on the big stage. The only difference between now and when I was 18 is that now I have this beautiful, meaningful record waiting for me when I can sing it.

While on vocal rest, from the throat surgery, John Mayer plans to do some traveling in the US: Until then, I’m taking off. Going to travel the country, look and listen.”

Wishing you quick recovery.
